Get rid of diabetes myths!

Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both.

These are some of the most common myths around diabetes:
  • Diabetes is not that serious of a disease: It is a serious disease and can´t be taken as something not so important
  • If you are overweight or obese, you will eventually develop type 2 diabetes
  • Eating too much sugar causes diabetes
  • People with diabetes are more likely to get colds and other illnesses
  • If you have type 2 diabetes and your doctor says you need to start using insulin, it means you are failing to take care of your diabetes properly
  • You can get diabetes if you are really scared
  • Insulin may blind you or even kill you
My grandmother has diabetes and when I told her about these myths she told me that actually she believed more than the half of these ones were true!! Imagine how many people with diabetes also thinks that these myths are truth! If people believe these myths it can be really dangerous for their health! So let´s make everyone more aware of what´s true and what´s just a simple myth in order to be more healthy persons.

Oxytocin and morality...

What makes people act with more or less morality? Is there a scientific explanation for it?
Well, at science class I learned that there is a molecule called oxytocin, that is related to the moral of people. These discovery was made by Paul Zak, a brilliant scientific that made a research about morality and how is it attached to oxytocin. These video is really cool and interesting.

I love you from the bottom of my hypothalamus!

Have you ever been in love with someone? An special guy or girl that makes you feel like asdfghjklñ? Well if you think you love them with all your heart, then it´s just someone you find out handsome. But, when you love them with all your hypothalamus, then you can get married.
Let me explain myself better. At health class, my teacher explained to us about the Endocrine System and its glands. One of them makes us feel in love with someone, it´s called "Hypothalamus".
The hypothalamus it’s the central control station for the body’s autonomic nervous system. It regulates hunger, thirst, body temperature, ovulation in females, and libido in  male and female. The hypothalamus produces the anti diuretic hormone (ADH), which controls the reabsorption of water in the kidneys. It also produces oxytocin which starts delivery and in male ejaculation.
When my teacher explained this to me, I had a better idea of why I feel so excited when I see a guy I like. And this is because my hypothalamus starts working, that must mean he´s doing something right.
